Video: This guy defies gravity!

Defies gravityThis video will open your eyes as to what is possible on a bicycle!  Danny MacAskill is an amazing rider who can ride over or on just about anything.  By watching this video you will see a type of riding that has similarities to mountain biking and it may give you some inspiration to try some new tricks of your own!

This type of riding is not exactly mountain bike riding, but it is related.  It is called street trials riding.  Traditional mountain bike trials riding is usually done on an obstacle course with logs, boulders, cars, etc.  Street trials riding is similar to traditional trials riding in that it takes a lot of balance and skills to manuever the bike over difficult obstacles.  This particular video shows street trials riding and some freestyle riding.

This video is not intended to encourage you to try any of this, but it is here to show you what is humanly possible on a bike! One of the most important habits that you should form when you are riding trails or any sort of mountain bike terrain is to always look ahead for what is coming your way.  This may seem like an obvious skill but there is a certain way to do this that will improve your overall ride.  The general idea is to look ahead and scan the trail so that you can better anticipate any obstacles that may be coming up or changes in the trail or the terrain. Looking down the trail gives you more time to respond to and overcome those obstacles and changes.  If you are always looking right in front of your tire, you place yourself in a reactionary state. By the time you see the obstacle it is too late to appropriately respond, you only have time to react. (more…)
