Sedona Mountain Biking

Mountain biking in Sedona is a lot of fun with it’s vast network of singletrack trails, challenging rocky terrain and amazing scenic red rock views, but there are some additional things you should know about the area as well.

Recently I have had a lot of people ask me about mountain biking in Sedona because I live nearby in Flagstaff and I ride the Sedona trails regularly in the winter time.  So I thought I would put together this post to give you some info on the mountain bike riding in Sedona.

This is the kind of info you will want to have if you are planning a mountain bike trip to Sedona or even if you are just looking for mountain bike vacation ideas.

Sedona is like a big mountain bike park with trails that surround it and The Village of Oak Creek (a small town south of Sedona).  A lot of the trails are relatively short, but when you start to link them all together you can create a ride that is as epic as you want!  Here is a Sedona mountain bike trail guide and map that I recommend.  These will give you  (more…)

Daydreaming About Flowy Singletrack & a Mountain Bike Tour in Scotland

Scotland Mountain Bike Tour 3During this time of year I often start daydreaming of mountain bike trips and nice flowy singletrack on a warm summer’s day.  Then I open my eyes and reality sets in.  Oh yeah there is snow all over those awesome singletrack trails that I normally ride during the summer.  Dang!  Well, it never hurts to take that daydreaming and turn it into planning for your next mountain bike adventure.

In this case I have recently heard about a mountain bike holiday in the Highlands of Scotland that spends part of the day on their mountain bike trails and then tours some of the local whiskey distilleries in the afternoon. From the pictures of the trails and the scenery it looks like this will be an awesome cycling adventure! This tour will be a great way to get a taste of Scotland, some of the mountain bike trails, and the regions finest whiskey.

Below is Highlands Adventures description of the tour:   (more…)

Video: This is a fun video on the history of Mountain Biking!

History of Mountain Biking So where did this crazy sport of Mountain Biking come from?  Well as legend has it, it was some guys in California who took beach cruisers and converted them into the first “Mountain Bikes”.  They would drive these bikes to the top of the mountains in the San Francisco bay area (Mount Tamalpais) for a fun ride down the trails or roads.  This video does a nice job of capturing the spirit of the early pioneers of mountain biking.  There are some notable mountain bike legends interviewed in the video like Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze, Tom Ritchey, etc.  (more…)

Story: Why You Will Want to be Prepared for Your Next Mountain Bike Ride!

Being prepared for Mountain Bike Ride

As I was getting ready for a midmorning mountain bike ride with some friends, I looked outside to check the mountain to see if there were any dark clouds hovering around.  There were a few, and generally in the monsoon season in northern Arizona this means that there will be an intense rain storm in the late morning, early afternoon.  This year’s monsoon season had been a little weird because the storms would begin to grow and look really nasty, but then nothing would happen.  So for most of the summer the storms ended up “bluffing”.  On this day I had a suspicion that it was just going to be one of those “bluffing” storms.  But just in case I decided to grab my rain jacket and throw it in my riding pack.

Little did we know……..
